The Sacred Breath: Life, Death, and the Dance Between
To walk with death is to walk with life
Aloha Marvelous Being,
What is a Death Doula?
A death doula is a companion of the threshold – an end-of-life midwife, weaving presence, compassion, and guidance.
They create sacred space for conversations often left unspoken – offering remembrance, legacy, and gentle support.
By embracing death as transformation, a death doula reminds us that endings are not final – they are passages. Love, memory, and energy continue to flow beyond the body.
Here, medicine is presence – breath, compassion, and care – for the one departing, and for those who remain.
Breath of the Cosmos, Tide of the Soul
Every breath we take is sacred, and like water, our first medicine, it affects and connects us all. It’s a testament to our exisDance and a bridge to the cosmos. Like water, our first medicine, breath knows no boundaries, weaving together all of life. As we breathe in, we embrace the universe; as we exhale, we offer ourselves back. In this cycle, death is but a transformation, a new expression of energy.
Here in Idaho, I guide individuals and families as a death doula and death coach, creating sacred space for conversations about life, dying, and the transitions in between. My work is rooted in compassion and presence, supporting you in discovering your own intimate relationship with mortality while honoring the sacred dance of existence.
Join us in this sacred space to explore your unique, intimate relationship with life, death, and exisDance
In this space, we honor life’s journey and the transformation of death. I facilitate living funerals, a unique opportunity to create and attend your own celebration of life and death. Share this sacred moment with loved ones, reflecting on your journey and leaving a legacy that resonates beyond. Join us to explore these profound experiences, honoring the intimate dance of life, death, and existence – in the landscapes of Idaho, where community and spirit meet.

Living Funeral
A living funeral is a sacred gathering - held while the heart still beats and the soul still walks among us. Words of love, memory, and truth are spoken - not left to echo after death, but received in presence. It becomes a rare gift - to witness your honoring, to feel gratitude, connection, and the embrace of life itself.

Death's Tea Party
A death gathering opens a space where silence and honesty meet - where conversations flow that are often left unspoken. Here we sit together - with tenderness, with courage, with the willingness to face what it means to be mortal. In this presence, fear softens - and love finds its voice.

Death Education
Death education is a path into awareness - a learning that reaches beyond the mind into the soul. Through story, reflection, and shared wisdom we see death not as an end - but as transformation. It becomes a journey toward clarity, compassion, and a deeper reverence for the mystery of life.

Grief Guide & Support
Death, a profound mystery, invites us to explore its depths with curiosity, much like children who fearlessly question the unknown. While the loss of young ones feels like an upside-down world, death is not a punishment but a graduation of life. Could some children be quick learners, leaving us early to teach us love’s enduring lessons? Their Love is here to teach us, so we can reach us. I invite you to dive deeper into this enigma and uncover the wisdom it holds.

Pet Death Doula Service
“Pets are here to love us, so love can teach us.”
Pet Death Doulas are non-medical professionals offering emotional, spiritual, and practical support during a pet’s end-of-life journey and the grief that follows. They guide families through planning, euthanasia, after-death care, and ongoing bereavement while holding hands, paws, claws, hooves and fins in times of intensity.
“A true bond lasts forever.”

Wonder Walk & Talk
Sometimes the best conversations don't happen across a table, but side by side on a trail. A Wonder Walk & Talk combines the healing power of nature with meaningful conversation. Whether you're navigating grief, feeling stuck, facing a life transition, or simply longing for more clarity and peace, walking together can help you reconnect with yourself and find a way forward. Step outside. Breathe deeply. Let nature do what it does best.
We dream of travels through out the universe, is not the universe within us?
Whispers of Gratitude

I first heard Nicola speak in a chat room about death on an audio-only social app in 2021, at the height of the Covid pandemic. It was a time of isolation and extreme need for people to connect with others; I naturally gravitated toward her room because I also work in the death field.
Her ‘Death is transformation’ rooms would always fill up and people would remain fully engaged when she spoke. She has a commanding presence, is an excellent orator, holds a gift for facilitation and for bringing people together. She is a beautiful soul who makes everyone feel seen and heard, and has an uncanny ability to remember details about everyone who comes into her room.
Her living funeral rooms were truly special for all involved; when she held a funeral for me, she made me feel so valuable. She is an intuitive who knows what, and how to ask to elicit the deepest vulnerability out of people who come to her rooms. She has a warmth and a non-threatening presence which is a catalyst for so much healing in those who share, and equally those who are holding space for others. I have also witnessed her ability to be present on video which is even more powerful than just listening. She is truly a remarkable human who inspired me in different ways, each time we shared space together. As a hospice physician and a death doula myself, I would want someone like Nicola to accompany me through my death journey.
Dr. Agapi

I became acquainted with Nicola in her stream on Kick and very quickly found a loving caring person that I could share my heart, without judgement or bias.
A few years ago, I lost my wife of 40 years to covid and after spending a little time around Nicola, found that I could share with her everything about that experience, freely and fully. It is rare and refreshing to find a person that is willing, even encouraging for you to share your experience of death loss and grief. I look forward to being able to continue that relationship with her and as a friend.
She is the embodiment of a caring soul that wants to help people to experience life, themselves and others in an open and loving way. Once you connect with her you will want to experience more of what she is.

I know Nicola for over 5 years through her daily offerings on an audio social app to facilitate
gratitude, breath work and guided meditations during a time where the world was under
quarantine and social distancing a must. She also hosted and is still hosting, on a streaming/video
platform, weekly spaces where we talk about death and other heavy and edgy topics. Her
comforting and delightful presence makes it easy to open up and explore challenging topics
feelings and thoughts in a personal and group setting.
I had the privilege of taking part in my friend’s Living Funerals. Intimate online gatherings held
on a verbal social app and they have been nothing short of life-changing. She approaches every
person with compassion, love, and a rare willingness to delve deep. Her questions are probing in
the best possible way, the kind that make you stop, think, and discover truths about yourself you
didn’t even know were there.
What makes her truly special is the way she remembers the small details about everyone who
attends. You never feel like “just another participant”. You feel seen, valued, and understood.
Over time, I’ve witnessed profound transformations in people through these events, myself
included.
But don’t be fooled into thinking this is all sombre and serious, there’s been so much laughter,
moments of delightful weirdness, and the occasional challenging conversation that pushed us all
to grow. Somehow, she holds the space for it all with grace, humour, and a fearless heart.
I’ve learned more about myself in these sessions than I ever expected, and I will always be
grateful for the safe, accepting, and deeply human space she created.
Best Wishes,
Sky Larkin
What Does a Death Doula Do?
“End-of-life doulas provide non-medical, holistic support and comfort to people preparing for or experiencing end of life, offering education and guidance; emotional, social, and spiritual care; logistical and practical assistance, and more – before during and after death. End-of-life doulas complement and supplement the work of family and other caregivers (including hospice providers).” – NEDA
Also known as Death Doulas, Soul Midwives, Transition Guides – We are the trained helpers that provide care to the dying and their loved ones. We seek to promote ease and cultivate meaning through one of life’s most profound moments. Death is not a topic that most people wish to ponder, but End of Life Doulas have chosen to dive into those deep waters and demystify the dying process. We wish to empower individuals and our communities to have an end of life plan and care on their terms, and to inspire contemplation.
In essence, an end of life doula provides non-medical, non-judgmental support and guidance to the dying and their loved ones. They come alongside other caregivers and members of the medical team, and advocate for informed choices in end of life care.
Although we hope that systems eventually understand how valuable these services are, doula services are NOT currently covered by pet insurance policies. Doula services are a private pay situation, which is why I offer a sliding scale fee model to make these services more accessible to families.
You can expect your doula to be fully present in your meetings together.
You will be heard and supported
Your wishes will be honored
The myriad of details will become manageable
You will gain resources and an advocate
Plus many more transformational things can happen when choose to explore Death as our teacher.
When medical care and procedures reach their limits, a death doula offers what the system cannot: presence, clarity, and unwavering respect. Every choice, every moment is honored so that the final transition happens with dignity and autonomy. Death doulas offer holistic, non-medical care and do not provide medical advice.
A death doula does not turn away from fear or silence. Instead, they stay close. With calm presence, gentle listening, and deep attunement, they create a sacred atmosphere where both the seen and unseen are allowed to exist-so peace can naturally unfold.
Every ending carries its own rhythm. Sometimes it is a quiet blessing, sometimes the glow of candlelight, sometimes a ritual that feels older than words. A death doula helps shape the farewell in a way that reflects the spirit and story of the one departing.
The physical body may fade before the spirit does. The mind may release before the soul is ready. In this tender in-between, a death doula stays present-ensuring that nothing is rushed, nothing is dismissed, and every moment is witnessed with reverence.
Death is not the end of love-it reshapes it. Grief transforms the living, often in ways that feel overwhelming. A death doula does not erase the pain but walks beside those left behind, helping them find meaning and direction within the landscape of loss.
